Steven Vink (1946) studied Human Geography at the Free University in Amsterdam with specializing in historical geography, archaeology, toponymy and settlement history. In 1982 he joined the photographic department at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam. Currently he is active with the photographic collections of the Tropenmuseum. In this department he engages in photo collection management and conservation of the historical photos, negatives and albums.
He also does scientific research within the collection resulting in exhibitions and publications. He is the ‘gateway’ to the visual collections (cultural heritage) of the Tropenmuseum for researchers, universities and museums all over the world. One of his specialized subjects is expedition photography from the Dutch colonial past.
